Safari Squad. Safari Family Vacation Shirt
Please don’t take this as a slight on American shirting. I love my American-styled Oxford Cloth Button Down shirts. A well made OCBD is a thing of beauty. It’s Tuesday today and I’ve worn two this week (One even had a pocket!). For my money, the Safari Squad. Safari Family Vacation Shirt in other words I will buy this pinnacle of these shirts was reached by Brooks Brothers until things took a decidedly Wrong Turn in the 1990s. I have a couple from this older, golden era which I treasure, to what may be an unreasonable degree. Interestingly, Brooks only started adding pockets in the 60s, something they are going back to As for where one carries a pen – that is one of the functions of the suit coat* or jacket. One would not, traditionally, walk about the place in shirt-sleeves and so there was no need for a shirt pocket. Indeed, many higher-end coat makers will add a pocket specifically for a pen. Official Safari Squad. Safari Family Vacation Shirt
If shirt pockets are being removed as I suspect, especially in the Safari Squad. Safari Family Vacation Shirt in other words I will buy this lower end of the market then this is probably to do with price. It has been a trend for some time to remove extraneous details in clothing to reduce the cost of producing them. One shirt pocket may not be expensive, but across tens of thousands the cost adds up. Since you can likely sell the shirt for the same price that’s money in someone’s (Presumably not shirt) pocket. You can see this trend in trousers as well, where things like French flies (Freedom flies perhaps?) and change pockets have become the preserve of bespoke makers. This is no more than we deserve for being swayed by the lure of fast fashion made by children in third-world sweatshops. Something I’m sure your price-of-everything-and-value-of-nothing namesakes would appreciate, Mr Galt.
