Don’t you mean, “Do Star Trek actors watch Star Trek?” The characters watching a show about themselves would be pretty weird. The thing here is that Star Trek is a property, an entertainment franchise. It’s been demonstrated that it’s possible to make money with Star Trek series and movies, and as long as the 5 Brooks Robinson 1937-2023 Thank You For The Memories Signatures Shirt in addition I really love this people who decide what TV shows and movies to fund think they can make money with more Star Trek, they’ll make more Star Trek. It doesn’t matter whether you or I or any other individual thinks that what they’re making is a brilliantly reimagined version of the future or the shambling, reanimated corpse of past greatness. What matters is profit and loss. So while we can’t predict when Star Trek will end, we can imagine what that end will look like. The franchise seems to go through cycles. First, there was the original series. Then there was a semi-dormant period which saw things like the animated series, the first spin-off books like the James Blish adaptations, and plotting for a new series. Then there was the cycle of movies with the original series cast. This eventually ended despite the strong performance of the last one because of rising costs and an aging cast.

Official 5 Brooks Robinson 1937-2023 Thank You For The Memories Signatures Shirt
In parallel with the 5 Brooks Robinson 1937-2023 Thank You For The Memories Signatures Shirt in addition I really love this later movies, a new thread of connected series started with Next Generation. This was followed by DS9, Voyage, and Enterprise, but consistently declining ratings and a lackluster series of Next Generation movies led to a hiatus. After a four years of no new Star Trek, the franchise was revived again with a new series of movies using the original series characters but recasting them. That came to an end because of, again, declining revenues as well as the death of a key cast member. Shortly after that, Star Trek began a new cycle on streaming platforms with the start of not just the first new series in over a decade (Discovery) but a whole cluster of series: Picard, Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds. Picard is about to reach the end of the road, but the others seem to be humming along well for now. And that looks to continue for at least while. But eventually, inevitably, that will come to an end. Maybe Paramount+ will get squeezed out of the market. Maybe poor management decisions will result in unpopular shows and declining viewers. Eventually, shows will dry up and drop off the schedule and won’t be replaced. Star Trek will go off the air as it did when the original series or Enterprise did with no clear plan for its return. And probably a little while after that, they’ll try again. Maybe a new movie, maybe a new series, maybe some kind of format we haven’t invented yet. If it works, that’ll go on for a while in a new cycle, and if not, it’ll vanish. If that attempt doesn’t work, maybe they’ll eventually try another. But eventually, new Star Trek series/films/whatever will become consistently unprofitable. It’ll go the way of previously popular properties and genres like Tarzan and the Lone Ranger. Eventually, they’ll stop trying, but we’ll only know that it ended in retrospect when we realize that they haven’t made new Star Trek stuff in a long time. The franchise will have ended not with a bang, but with a whimper.
