As for someone who dresses a little more uniquely, hello. I’m a wearer of bright colors and have gotten a few looks before, so I’d say that my look would count as “interesting” at times. If I had to go to work, I’d have to wear regular work clothes, but because I’m unemployed, nobody can fire me for wearing bright and colorful sundresses all the time and dressing like I’m always happy (the colors actually help my mood. It’s not that I don’t feel sadness, it’s just that wearing more depressing colors adds to that, while yellow is the most uplifting color of all). For most people, they have a dress code at their workplace, possibly even a uniform. They become so used to a set of rules dictating what they can and can’t wear, that they don’t even buy clothes that don’t fit “the rules”.
