He got pushed to the front of the line for gear issue. They did make him throw it away though. There was some compassion for him in the midst of everything. He did get told to say hooah and go army a lot. I’d save it for afterwards, if that’s your friend’s sense of humor. While they’re in basic, I’d send them supportive letters and things they specifically ask for, if anything. Mostly support. Wait a few months until after basic for gag gifts, no matter how well-intended. Drill instructors live for things like that. You would at first see the DI that noticed the T-shirt break into a smile and look at you with the same expression that a man has when he sees his first child for the first time. This would quickly be replaced by the look that an insane serial killer gets when he spots his prey. In a matter of seconds you would be surrounded by a pack of drill instructors screaming at you from all sides with their faces bare inches from your face and spittle flying all around. After the novelty of this wore off they would probably have you on the deck in the front lean and rest position and start you doing pushups. Just for the fun of it they might have all of the other recruits you arrived with doing pushups also because they didn’t throw you and your Army shirt out the bus window before you arrived. After all of you were laying on the deck in complete exhaustion they would run you into receiving barracks to start your indoctrination. Your fellow recruits, some of whom might be in your platoon when it forms up, will hate you after they recovered enough from the pushups to have emotions. Don’t mess with DIs, they are pros and you are their meat.
